Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to common questions, so you know exactly what to expect.

Do you take Insurance?

Unfortunately, we dot not. he current medical model is based on seeking maximum insurance reimbursement with patient care and interventions NOT patient based solutions and approaches. Northern Illinois Spine and Sport Physical Therapy’s approach can not be supported by insurance based practice based on one on one, high quality and spine specific physical therapy interventions.

Why not?

Our treatment approach and philosophy is based on patients receiving high value, one on one, quality hands on care for the full session. This can not be supported by an insurance-based therapy practice. Unlike other clinics that utilize insurance, at NISSPT you will not be charged for unsupervised, unskilled warm up time on a machine, and receive exercises and direction from technicians that have no formal physical therapy training. In most cases, the insurance company (instead of the patient’s health care provider) controls or influences a patient’s treatment with treatment sessions that are adjusted based on insurance reimbursement rates. At NISSPT, we provide patient centered care and solutions based approach that is determined by your diagnosis related issues and not dictated by the insurance, patient volume expectations and demands, patient billing targets/expectations, and satisfying business partners and investors.

A. You do have options though!

a. Use your FSA/HSA

b. Submit claim to your insurance for direct reimbursement to you.

What is ELDOA

ELDOA is a French acronym for Longitudinal Osteo-articular Decoaptation Stretches, which are self-correcting postural exercises created by French osteopath Guy VOYER. The primary goal is to decompress a specific joint, especially in the spine, by creating tension in the surrounding fascial tissue to widen the space between the vertebrae and the intervertebral discs. This decompression can lead to a wide range of benefits, including pain relief, improved posture, increased blood flow, and better joint mechanics.

How it works

• Decoaptation: The core principle is to create space within a joint by reducing compression forces.

• Fascial tension: ELDOA uses myofascial tension to put the body into a position that creates a "separating force" within the targeted joint.

• Tensegrity: The technique is based on the concept of tensegrity, which is the principle that the body's structure is held together by a balance of tensional and compressive forces across the entire network of fascia.

• Specificity: Each exercise is highly specific and designed for a particular joint, allowing for targeted treatment of issues like disc compression between L5-S1 or other vertebral segments.

Benefits of ELDOA

Increases space between vertebrae and discs

Improves joint mechanics and function

Reduces pressure on spinal discs

Hydrates spinal discs by encouraging fluid movement

Relieves chronic and acute pain in the back, neck, hips, and shoulders

Improves posture and muscle tone

Increases flexibility and range of motion

Enhances blood flow throughout the body

Improves mind-body connection

What is schroth scoliosis therapy?

The Schroth Method is a specialized, non-surgical physical therapy for scoliosis and kyphosis, using 3D exercises, postural awareness, and rotational angular breathing to correct spinal imbalances by elongating, derotating, and stabilizing the spine. Developed by Katharina Schroth, it aims to halt curve progression, improve posture, reduce pain, and increase lung capacity by teaching patients to auto-correct their spine and maintain alignment in daily life. It's a personalized approach that requires consistent patient effort to achieve results like improved spinal symmetry and better body mechanics.

Key Components of the Schroth Method

• 3D Correction: Addresses the spine's lateral curve, rotation, and natural sagittal curves.

• Breathing Techniques (Rotational Angular Breathing): Involves breathing into the concave (indented) areas of the torso to expand them and help de-rotate the spine.

• Postural Awareness: Teaches patients to recognize and correct postural imbalances.

• Strengthening & Elongation: Specific exercises to strengthen core muscles and elongate the trunk, often using body positions and props like poles.

• Auto-Correction: Patients learn to actively realign their spine.

Goals of Schroth Therapy

Stabilize and prevent worsening of the spinal curve.

Improve postural alignment and body symmetry.

Reduce pain.

Increase muscle strength, mobility, and lung capacity.

Educate patients to maintain corrections in daily activities.

Who Benefits?

Patients with scoliosis or kyphosis of all ages (adolescents and adults).

Can be used alongside bracing or after surgery.

Effectiveness

Effectiveness depends heavily on patient commitment and consistency with home exercises (30-45 mins daily).

Research shows improvements in posture, strength, and reduced pain.
